Nigeria: Kidnapped Sierra Leonean Deputy High Commissioner Rescued

Maj. Gen. Alfred Nelson-Williams Deputy High Commissioner of Sierra Leone made a diplomatic visit to Nigeria,  and was kidnapped along route from Abuja to Kaduna last Friday. Fortunately, according to authorities the Deputy has been rescued.

He was kidnapped on his way from Abuja to Kaduna to attend the passing out ceremony of military officers at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College in Jaji.


Police spokesman Don Awunah, said the diplomat was released around 4 p.m. on Tuesday the 5th day of July 2016.

Awunah said that credible intelligence, unleashed intense police activities on both land and by air within the area where he was kidnapped. Williams is in good condition and has been reunited with his family; he concluded. On whether any ransom was paid, there was no comment on that but the kidnappers had earlier demanded $40 million as ransom.
