Nigeria’s National Association of Resident Doctors Call Strike

imageMohammed Askira, the President of the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) announced that the association is calling for strike action. The strike action was embarked on due to inability of the government to meet their demands. He made this announcement at a press conference on Saturday June 25, 2016 in Abuja.


He confirmed that doctors would resume official duties on today (Monday), June 27, 2016. While addressing journalists, Mr. Askira said the decision was reached to alleviate the plight of the masses who have been facing difficulties getting medical care. He pleaded with the government to address the issue and enact the agreement reached with the association before the 14th of July.

The Association had submitted a list of demands to the Federal Government.

The demands include appropriate placement of members in both states and federal tertiary hospitals across the country, payment of members’ salaries till date, reversal of sacked members in some hospitals, they also demanded for appropriate funding for residency training programs.
