Heartland F.C.’s season may be going through some ups and downs, however, the team has the chance to change their destiny as they welcome arch rivals, Enugu Rangers International F.C. at the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday, in the Oriental Derby.
The Spartans won’t want to be distracted with reports of their goalkeeper, Ebele Obi’s transfer saga to Ifeannyiuba but will focus on denting the Rangers’ hopes of getting any points.
The Owerri based club have managed just one win, lost three and drew one of their last five matches in the league to remain 15th on the log.
Having won the Nigerian Premier League five times (1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1993), the Naze Millionaires have struggled to achieve past success and faced a daunting task against a Flying Antelopes side that are fifth on the table.
Statistically, Heartland have won nine of their last nine meetings against the Rangers and this encounter could go in favor of the home team. The last time both teams met on September 6, 2015 at Owerri, the Spartans defeated the Rangers 2-0.
The host will be counting on the services of Bright Ejike, David Tyavkase, Julius Ubido and Chinedu Efugh to shoulder the goal responsibilities while the Enugu Rangers will bank on Chisom Egbuchulam, Osas Okoro and Christian Madu to down the dreams of Heartland FC.
Interestingly, the two clubs are yet to be relegated to the lower division since the inception of the league.
