Both teams were using the encounter as part of preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that will commence later this year. The Super Eagles had a brilliant first half with some quick passes and understanding among the players but their inability to bury their goal scoring chances meant the first half ended goalless.
At the resumption of the second half the Malian team gave the Super Eagles a run for their money but had Carl Ikeme to thank for standing solid in front of the goal post. However, the deadlock was broken as Kelechi Iheanacho scored his first senior national team goal in the 77th minute, with a calm finish, to the delight of the cheering fans.
The three time African Champions will now shift focus to Wednesday’s game against Luxembourg.
