Nigerians have been faced with an added perplexity of corruption after a precipitous expectation of change from the current government, as it was set to address fraud and renovate Nigeria’s image around the world.

The year 2016 has so many questionable elements, which delayed the appropriation of the budget bill. This ugly situation was frowned upon by many citizens, ex-pats and ex-executive leaders of the country, as this was not expected from this present administration due to their commitment in tackling corruption since the President assumed office.

The fact was pointed out while President Muhammadu Buhari was addressing the Nigerian community in Saudi Arabia. The president expressed his dissatisfaction over the problems facing the 2016 budget, which he termed as a shameful attribute to his government. He also explained that the alteration of the budget known as padding was done after the budget left his office.

In a statement made by Buhari through his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina quoted, “the 2016 budget presented to the National Assembly was totally altered by unauthorized persons. I am impressed by the work of the Minister for Budget and National Planning after he gave me a copy of the documented budget, but I realized something very different when it got to the National Assembly for the very first time since my experience in government”.

The president added that the perpetrators of the budget altering scandal will receive severe punishments when they are caught, due to the delay they have caused in the implementations of designed strategies to revive the economy of the country.
