Ahead of the Super Eagles’ double header match against the Pharaohs of Egypt in the 2017 African Cup of Nations qualifier, General Secretary of the Nigerian Football Federation; Dr. Mohammed Sanusi has disclosed that everything is in place for the team to win the encounter.
The team which failed to make it out of the group stage of the ongoing African Nations Championship in Rwanda are expected to regroup after the team’s coach Sunday Oliseh returns from his short holiday in Belgium.
Nigeria sit second on the log with four points while Egypt sit top of the group with six points from two matches as both teams will confront each other, March 23 and 27 in a match that could determine the sole winner of the group.
“As you are aware Oliseh was involved with the team going to the African Nations Championship which also served as a test for the Super Eagles so we already have focus,” Sanusi said.
“He [Sunday Oliseh] has identified a couple of players he feels can do the job for the main team which is also a good start”.
“We have set the plans in motion and we are only waiting for him [Sunday Oliseh] to come back so we can iron out a few grey areas before revealing our plans.
“I want to assure Nigerians that the NFF is on top of things and qualifying for the 2017 Nations Cup is a priority that is taken seriously,” he added.
Meanwhile, Egypt’s Argentine coach Héctor Cúper affirmed after the friendlies that he already knows his starters for the all important game against Nigeria.
The Pharaohs lost the first test game 1 – 0 to Jordan but rallied back to beat Libya 2 – 0 in the second test game.
