Reigning Nigeria Glo Premier League winner, Enyimba international have disclosed that they won’t be deterred in their quest for success regardless of a recent attack by armed gunmen on Monday.
The two-time CAF Champions League winner, were attacked on Monday by armed gunmen at Okene, Kogi State during their journey to Kaduna for the 2016 Super Four tournament.
Although no lives were lost, players and officials were robbed of their valuables such as phones, passports and cash. The Kano Pillars also suffered the same fate last season of which five of their players were injured, notably Gambo Mohammed.
The incident was confirmed via twitter on Monday afternoon and the Enyimba officials posited that the team’s quest won’t be affected by the attack.
“We thank God Almighty for His mercy and protection. We further wish to use this opportunity to urge the authorities to improve security in areas known for their high rate of robbery incidents”, said the statement.
“Enyimba Football Club remains committed to the success of the Super Four and will give our best throughout the tournament, despite how shaken up everyone is” said the team.
Warri Wolves, Nasarawa United and cup winners Akwa United are the other teams who will feature in the competition, which starts on Wednesday.
