Super Eagles began their campaign at the Africa Nations Championship in Rwanda on a promising note as the team annihilated the Menas of Niger 4 – 1 at the Stade Regional Nyamirambo on Monday, thanks to Chisom Chikatara’s hat-trick to go to the top of group C.
Despite starting the match in an impressive manner with some free flow football in the early part of the encounter, the team failed to create quality chances, which made the Menas appear solid at the backline.
It’s Sunday Oliseh’s first victory at the CHAN tournament and he will be hoping that his stewards better their performance in subsequent games.
Nigeria’s best chance came in the 17th minute, when Babatunde Adeniji couldn’t covert a clean opportunity that could have put the team in the lead.
However, goals from Osas Okoro in the 46th opened the floodgates of goals after receiving a superb pass from Adeniji before lashing the ball to the back of the net. Further goals from hat-trick hero, Chikatara, who came on for Adeniji in the second half ensured the Super Eagles picked up the maximum points.
Nigeria’s next match will be against Tunisia on Thursday and a victory will seal qualification to the quarter final of the competition.
