Super Falcons retired midfielder, Stella Mbachu says she wants the current Minister of Sports, Barrister Solomon Dalung not to neglect the team among the athletes to be honored by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Having promised to host and honor Nigerian athletes that made the country proud in 2015 and the 1985 Golden Eaglets set on Thursday, January 21 at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, there are concerns that the Falcons, who won the 2014 Africa Women’s Championships in Namibia for the record seventh time, could be left behind.
Mbachu has played an integral part in the team’s success in the past and revealed that it would be unfair if they were neglected.
“It will amount to unfair treatment for Super Falcons to be omitted on the president’s honor list of athletes as we have been on the top banner of athletes to be honored during the tenure of his predecessor, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan”.
“Women’s football has brought more laurels to this country than any other sports and need all the motivations which reward for past performances could perfectly address. Now that the incumbent president has decided to honor athletes that excelled in 2015 we plead with the minister to bend backward to include our names” concluded Mbachu.
