Christine Lagarde: No IMF Program Needed in Nigeria


Receiving the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Christine Lagarde at the Presidential Villa, President Buhari said that his administration will also enforce greater discipline, probity and accountability in all revenue generating agencies of the Federal Government, Premium Times NG reports.

President Buhari said the Federal Government will welcome the technical support and expertise of the IMF for its plans to diversify the Nigerian economy and further unleash its growth potentials, the reports continues.

Lagarde made sure to note that Nigeria has the ability to restructure itself, despite falling oil prices and deal with all its financial constraints without the need of participating in an IMF directed loan program, the IMF would only be providing assistance when needed.

Lagarde additionally stressed that her private discussion with Buhari highlighted a repeated theme for the President, anti-corruption, accountability and transparency.
