Enugu Rangers F.C. won the bragging right in Sunday’s Nigerian Premier League Oriental Derby match as the team defeated Heartland F.C. 2-1 at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, in Owerri, Imo State, Nigeria.
The host got on the score sheet as early as the 12th minute through Julius Ubido’s brilliant free-kick past the Rangers goalkeeper.
However, Chinedu Udeagha responded quickly for the Rangers as he netted in the 17th minute to give the visiting team a deserved equalizer.
Both teams had the opportunity to extend their lead in the second half but their profligacy in front of goal meant the score remained 1-1.
The winning goal eventually came through substitute, Chisom Egbuchulam who converted from the penalty spot in the 57th minute after being brought down by a Heartland player.
The result means the Rangers move forth at the top of the log ahead of Enyimba, Sunshine Stars and Lobi Stars.
