Real Madrid Dents Iheanacho’s Champions League Dream

Fernando unfortunately allowed for today’s Real Madrid victory

Despite dreaming of playing in his first Champions League final in Milan, Super Eagles midfielder, Kelechi Iheanacho will have to wait for another season as Real Madrid managed a 1-0 victory to beat Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Wednesday’s second leg semifinal clash.

In the crushing upset it was City’s defensive midfielder Fernando with an own goal in the 20th minute that gave Real Madrid the lead.

Iheanacho who came on as a substitute for Jesus Navas in the 66th minute made his presence felt even though he could not change the complexion of the match.

His first attempt on the ball could not locate a waiting Sergio Agüero in the 18-yard box as Real Madrid defended their 1-0 narrow lead till the referee’s final whistle.

Real Madrid will now face eternal arch rivals, Atlético Madrid in the final of the Champions League at San Siro, Milan on May 28.

The last time both teams met, Real were victorious with a score of 4-1 in the final in 2013.
