Arsenal bit the dust for what seems like the umpteenth time as Barcelona ended their quest of glory in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Barcelona F.C. beat the Young Gunners 3-1 in Wednesday’s second leg round of 16 at Camp Nou, Spain.
The Gunners who were hoping to erase the two goal deficit they conceded at Emirates Stadium a fortnight ago started the game brightly but were let down by poor finishing by Mesut Özil and Danny Welbeck.
However, Neymar punished Arsenal in the 18th minute with a low drive shot to keep the scoreline 1-0 in the first half.
At the resumption of the second half, Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny gave the Gunners a glimpse of hope when he scored in the 51st minute.
Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi made an appreciable impact as his assist to Alexis Sánchez was not converted.
Barcelona’s Luis Suárez scored a beautiful banana kick before Lionel Messi completed the Gunners bashing with a splendid chip over Arsenal goalkeeper David Ospina.
Iwobi was later substituted for Olivier Giroud in the 73rd minute while Elneny played a key role, staying on the pitch for the duration of the match.
