There was nothing separating two of Lagos’ enterprising teams at the Nigerian Professional League as Ikorodu United and Mountain of Fire Ministry FC played out a 0-0 draw at the Onikan Stadium this past weekend.
Being the first time that Lagos State witnessed such a big derby clash in a very long time, the crowd didn’t disappoint as they came out in large numbers to cheer on their club-sides.
As expected, both teams were fired up in the early part of the encounter with a brilliant exchange of passes and quality goalkeeping to the delight of the fans.
The 10-men Olukoya Boys were impressive, particularly in the first half, but could not find a breakthrough before being forced to defend against the Oga Boys sustained attacks, after the break at Onikan Stadium, on Saturday.
The biggest chance came to the home team but they couldn’t bury the begging goal scoring chance in the second half.
Meanwhile, Fidelis Ilechukwu was delighted with MFM FC’s performance in their 0-0 draw against cross-city rivals Ikorodu United.
“This is the first time we are keeping a clean sheet in the top-flight, I never thought we would record a draw because even with 11 men against Nasarawa United Shooting Stars of Ibadan, we conceded goals, so for me this result is a good one” said Ilechukwu.
“Derbies all over the world are always difficult, and I think my players deserve commendation for their resilience, they really showed character and discipline” he concluded.
