Nigeria and Spain Take on Joint Venture; Barcelona’s Football Academy First in African History


The future of football in Nigeria tends to be a promising platform as one of the biggest football clubs in the world and the leading Spanish football league is setting up the first African football academy in Nigeria, that will be owned and managed by the Barcelona Football Club.

This is the same type of academy that produced the young talented footballers who have helped Barcelona achieve outstanding successes and fame over the years. Some of these footballers include: Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta, Gerard Pique, Sergio Busquet and many others.

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode emphasized his joy over the development while receiving the management staff of the Barcelona Football Club in his office on Monday. He confirmed that Spain has finalized all the arrangements to set up the academy in Lagos State.

The Director of Business and Member of FC Barcelona Management Board, Pau Vilanova Vila-Abadal said that the decision of establishing the football academy in Lagos was made due to opportunities found in Lagos. He also mentioned that Lagos State has the impressive population of both youth and children to drive the goals of the Academy.

The worldwide director of the Barcelona Football Academy, Oscar Grau also confirmed that Barcelona was committed to the development of future Nigerian footballers.
