Two weeks after the inauguration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello as the governor of the state without a deputy, the Honorable Simon Achuba was nominated and elected as deputy governor. This was contained in a letter presented to the Kogi state House of Assembly by the newly elected governor.
In a plenary session held on February 9, 2016 by legislators, The Speaker of the Kogi House of Assembly; Momoh Jimoh Lawal read the letter from the state governor and added that the governor had complied with the rule of law as contained in section 191(3c) of the 1999 constitution.
The legislators confirmed Achuba as the Deputy governor of the state without screening because he is a former speaker of the house, as suggested by Sunday Shigaba, a member representing PDP from the Bassa State Constituency. The motion was seconded by another PDP member of the house who represents the Igalamela/Odolu Constituency; Friday Sani.
Members of the house commended the choice of Governor Bello, they believe that Achuba will bring pride to the state in terms of good governance and transparency of leadership.
Achuba said that he will sacrifice all his efforts to make sure that Kogi state reach her goal of development.
Speaker of the House Impeached
Days after the confirmation of Achuba it appears Speaker of the House Momoh Jimoh Lawal was impeached for a third time by his peers.
