#DasukiGate: Court Adjourns Trial as EFCC Opposes File to Stop Trial

Dasuki trialThe former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki has filed a fresh application to stop the ongoing trial against him, he is charged with 19 counts of illegal diversion of N32bn in arms funds.

The file was termed “Application for Stay of Proceedings” based on the grounds that his prosecutor violated the law by disobeying the court order to grant him bail during the trial.

Joseph Daudu (SAN) stressed that his client, Col Sambo Dasuki (retd) was re-arrested shortly after he was released from prison to fulfill the court order, by the Department of State Security (DSS) which prevented the ex-NSA from having the access to prepare a prompt defense in the trial.

Meanwhile, Rotimi Jacob of Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has opposed the hearing of the application due to the fact that section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015; the law guiding criminal proceeding has disqualified the entertainment of hearing such an application in the court.

Justice Baba Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory High Court then adjourned the trial of Col. Sambo Dasuki till the 4th of February when the fresh application for trial will be presented.
