Nigeria’s U23 Dream Team IV has managed to secure their place in the 2015 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) semi-finals. After drawing 2 – 2 with Egypt’s Young Pharoahs in Wednesday’s game, the team also drew to Algeria 0 – 0, on Saturday.
Algeria’s Fennec Foxes were not much for watching along with the Flying Eagles, as the games ebbs and flows left much to be desired. Nigeria’s football coach Samson Siasia said in a recent interview, the team needs to work on its defensive strategies, and although the Flying Eagles created opportunities for goals to be scored, they came just short of completing the task.
According to goal.com Nigeria dominated the latter stages of the match, but ultimately Samson Siasia’s side failed to deliver the goal they desperately craved, and the stalemate leaves the two teams locked on five points with the north Africans topping the group based on goal difference.
Nigeria is set to face undefeated hosts Senegal in the last four, while South Africa square up against Algeria for a place in the final on Wednesday, December 9, 2015.
The ongoing Africa U23 Cup of Nations in Senegal also doubles as the Olympic Qualifiers. The top three from this tournament get an automatic ticket to represent Africa at the 2016 Rio Olympics Men’s Football event.
